OUR VISION: To see the Methodist Movement alive, vibrant, growing and yearning to spread the good news of Christ Jesus throughout the whole world through word, deed and sign!

This wholistic ministry
of World Evangelism,
World Methodist Council and the Rio Conference
of the Methodist Church of Brazil is being used of God to
bring healing, hope and salvation in the name of Christ Jesus to the "poorest
of the poor" in the "favelas" of Rio and the Northeast area
of Brazil.
Using a mobile van equipped with state of the art medical equipment, Dr. Bonfirm
and a variety of medically trained volunteers itinerate throughout the poorest
areas of Brazil providing greatly needed
medical services along with the Gospel of
Christ Jesus. Much of the support of this
ministry comes from World Methodist
Evangelism through its Order of Luke (a
benevolent society of medical doctors) and
Friends of EvangeMed (people from around
the world who help to support this vital
ministry).
The EvangeMed ministry
was launched
in 1996 at the
World Methodist Conference
in Rio de Janeiro when Dr. Wilson Bonfim and his wife, Glaucia, were confirmed
by the Methodist Church as "missionaries for Christ Jesus." They
were empowered by the Holy Spirit "through the laying on hands"
by (from left to right) the World Director of Evangelism, the pastor of Dr.
Bonfim's home church in Rio, the Bishop of the Methodist Church in Brazil,
the pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis, TN and the Chairman
of World Evangelism. All of these persons were brought together through the
ministry of World Methodist Evangelism. A ministry was launched which would
"give a cup of cool water in the name of Christ Jesus"-- word, deed,
and sign would be combined together in a single outreach.
EvangeMed's vision -- to spread the Good News of Jesus -- is expressed by providing medical and dental care, prayers for healing and salvation, and a worshipping Christian faith community. EvangeMed's ministry is for ALL persons to experience wholeness in the name of Christ Jesus. Since its launching the EvangeMed ministry has been empowered for a remarkable ministry.
SUPPORT
FOR
EVANGEMED
World Methodist Evangelism, in partnership with the Methodist Church of Brazil, provides support for the EvangeMed doctor/evangelist teams. Many volunteers come from the Methodist Church of Brazil but a growing number of medical personnel are volunteering their time from other parts of the world to assist Dr. Bonfim and his staff. Medical Volunteers in Mission have joined in ministry in both Rio and the Northeast of Brazil. By the grace of God EvangeMed has come this far and is now seeking resources to expand into the Amazonia region.
Primary support for the ministry of EvangeMed comes through two World Methodist Evangelism programs: the Order of Luke (a benevolent society of medical doctors) and Friends of EvangeMed (people from around the world who help to support this vital ministry).
