Order of the Flame
The Order of the FLAME (Faithful Leaders As Mission Evangelists) is an ethnically and culturally diverse covenant community within the Wesleyan Methodist family that equips, nurtures, and encourages young clergy and their spouses in evangelism and mission through a yearly conference, ongoing mentorship, and timely resources.
The FLAME community is bound together by our commitment to being mission evangelists in the communities in which we serve, and by our willingness to offer ourselves as channels of God’s prevenient grace to all people. We are united in our belief in the power of the Holy Spirit to heal and transform, and we join together to proclaim and demonstrate that Jesus Christ reconciles all things, and his Gospel is good news for all creation.
Each year members of the Order of the FLAME gather for four days of inspiration, sharing, learning, and fellowship, and welcome a newly invited class into membership. As a community extending across the entire Wesleyan Methodist family, the Order of the FLAME transcends the boundaries of tradition, and seeks to be a witness to the fullness of God’s kingdom and the whole creation nature of salvation.
Order of the FLAME Covenant
As a community of encouragement and a witness to the healing power of the Holy Spirit in a broken world, we commit ourselves to God and one another by together affirming the following claims:
We belong wholly to God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and to one another as followers of Jesus.
We depend on the power of the Holy Spirit, the wisdom of Christ, and the strength of God’s Holy Love, practicing all the means of grace available to us.
We repent from sin in all its evil expressions, personal, corporate, and systemic, until its rebellious power is defeated, and its strongholds destroyed.
We do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God, embodying Jesus’ expansive welcome and invitation, standing in solidarity with the poor and suffering, and working for the transformation of whole persons, body mind, and spirit.
We offer ourselves as channels for God’s prevenient grace to all peoples in all places by all means at all times, believing that God’s desire is for all to be saved and none lost.
Because we know there is no holiness apart from social holiness, we join together as mission evangelists and members of the Order of the FLAME, to build bridges and break down barriers, to proclaim and demonstrate that Jesus Christ reconciles all things, and his Gospel is good news for all creation.
May these words from our lips be ratified by the witness of our lives. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.
