Real Faith ~ Real World
I believe that in Jesus Christ God has offered the healing balm of salvation to all creation. This salvation is more than simply an event or experience to look forward to in the future. It’s the radical healing of all creation – humans and the entire universe – right now, and in the age to come. This is tremendously good news; and it’s news all Christ followers can proclaim with joy and boldness.
This is the place where I explore what it means to live into that good news – to nurture the real faith within us and connect it tightly to the real world beyond us. I hope you’ll join me on this journey of nurture and connection so that together we might embrace faith more fully, proclaim it more authentically, and share it with greater grace and love.

When I recall Abdul Rahman, I recall the magnificent love offered in Jesus Christ – a love that comes to us freely and waits for our response without pressure or manipulation; a love that respects our sacred right of refusal; a love that Abdul Rahman was willing to die for. And that’s a love worth sharing.

I often talk about “speaking faith,” which for me means (among other things) giving life to our ideas and beliefs by speaking them aloud. Moving them from the realm of our personal, interior selves to an external realm where they can become infectious and dynamic. That’s the kind of thing I want to happen to my prayers, to my fasting, to whatever self-denial I decide to undertake.

Here is a reality check as we move forward from the Christmas event: Mary may have been the first Godbearer. She may have been the ultimate Godbearer. But if you are in relationship with Jesus Christ, then you are a Godbearer too. Everyone who follows in the Jesus way is called to be a Godbearer. That is a huge part of what it means to follow Jesus – bearing God to others.

An intriguing commonality between those who follow the Jesus way and non believers is a general distaste for evangelism. Certainly this dislike doesn’t apply to everyone, believer or not; nor does it stem from an accurate understanding of what evangelism is all about. But the dislike is there…The negative image of the televangelist looms large in all our consciences.
