Prayer Prompt: New Zealand and Haiti

Today we ask our World Methodist Evangelism partners to come alongside us in prayer for New Zealand and Haiti. While much of recent news has focused on American politics, we want to remember those affected by natural disasters in the past couple of months.

Today, we lift up New Zealanders affected by the 7.8 earthquake that hit last night on the South Island. Reports from the Wesleyan Methodist Church of New Zealand are encouraging so far, but aftershocks continue and there have been tsunami warnings as well.

We also lift up Haitians dealing with the aftermath of October’s Hurricane Matthew, further affected by recent heavy rain and flooding. The South of Haiti was hit particularly hard, and the World Health Organization has sent 1 million cholera vaccines to prevent the spread of disease.

If you would like to come alongside ministries in New Zealand and Haiti, consider these initiatives through Global Partners and UMCOR:

Funding for La Gonave Community Health Evangelism, Haiti

Funding for The Well church facilities in Christchurch, New Zealand

Funding for Combating Hunger, Rural Haiti

Funding for Shore Grace Ministry, New Zealand

Father, we lift up those affected by natural disasters. Thank you for your ongoing work in places as far apart as New Zealand and Haiti. We thank you for the lives of those who live and work there. Meet their needs, provide them with food and shelter, and comfort the grieving. Show us how we can live as brothers and sisters in this world. Amen.
